Barbarian Tactics

As a barbarian several things are expected of you. First of all, you are expected to take big hits and shrug them off and be a pain to kill off while dishing out AoE punishments and line backing. Aside for the obvious ,however, there a few more things that you should be doing on a regular basis.

Open PK:

The Start:

In open Pk you take on several roles the first of which is crowd control and punishment of positioning. At the start of most fights a group will rush out together and start casting as soon as possible. This creates the perfect situation for barbarians as they will often be in tight clusters perfect for you AoE punishment. Find the center of a group of non heavy armors then Ground Rending>Onslaught>Perdition (With berserk axes.) followed by another Ground Rending when ready. This forces two situations just from you alone. Most die from your AoE lessening the pressure on your teams or they survive with ticked hieros and are forced to run to avoid death also removing pressure. Either way your team benefits from you paying attention and punishing the mistakes of your foe.

The Main Fight:

After the first large hits; the fights tend to go into a bit of chaos ,however, this is where good teams shine and you need to be paying attention. Assist off of your target caller and aid them as needed. If the target is a heavy Damion Provocation and line back them to keep them in your teams attack. Anything else
you will attack in your normal way line back to keep them still and perdition with your team to kill them off and any poorly positioned foes. If you are the target caller attack targets in this order: Clerics>Venomancers>Archers>Mages>Baldemasters>Barbarians. Go down the list as you run out of targets going right back to the top as the more important targets respawn. As the target caller you are expected to always have a living foe selected for disposal and during most of this time you will be in tiger form Surf Impacting the targets to catch them and then killing them anyway you can. Now if you are not in a squad your job changes just a little bit. Since you wont have five other people attacking your target you have time to make better targets and use of your AoE mid fight. Venomancer pets are also fair game in between targets take them down as you see them as the pets are very dangerous to your more squishy friends. Much like at the start when alone you will punish groups and beat down light armor and robes. Also if a barbarian or baldemaster is ever your target with robe users or light armors around pay more attention and stop being harmful to your factions fight. If a barbarian needs to be taken down that is the job of a squad composed of a lot of magical attackers not you. The most you should ever do to a passing barbarian or blademaster
is screw up their fury with damion provocation and be on your way because you have more important things to worry about.

Gaining Ground:

As your faction begins to defeat the squads attacking you the selection of targets should be down to a few left over Heavy armors. This is the only time you should be damaging these targets so help take them down and send them back to safe.
You can help in the following ways: Chain Gravitation Stonker, Surf Impact and Frighten to keep them in place and slow, Damion Provocation to keep barbarians from using defense skills or switch to elemental fists to help DPS the target out.

Losing Ground:

At this point several of your party members are dead or squads around you have broken and gone into chaos. This is a dire situation that you need to handle as soon as possible and effective as possible (AKA Line Back the hell out of them). During this situation you will be coming under fire more due to lack of targets and as the issue gets worse so will your HP. You will no longer be in human form from this point on and will be all tiger form as you desperately try to keep your squad alive. Abuse Surf Impact, Bluster, Frighten and Raging Pounce on recharge. Right now you need to be removing as much damage with your AoE debuffs as possible only going to human to perdition when it is safe and will take out targets. However, that is if you still have fury since in this situation Black Tortlen Possess will be used a lot as they focus more on you. Also expect to rebuff a lot at this time as party members return from safe or are debuffed. This phase will last till you either lose or your squad can regroup and push back up to the gaining ground phase. This phase generally takes effect once two or more squad members are dead or half of your squads have suffered heavy deaths. Being in tiger form a lot during this is also a good way to let other barbarians in the area know that your squad is in trouble and make them aware that they should come help right away.

The last three parts come in and out very often and very fast. As a barbarian you need to recognize what situation it is and react accordingly.

Territory War:

TW Catapult Pulling:

Congrats you have been picked for pulling a catapult now enjoy as you are relentlessly beat on till you die or win. Either way pack a lot of hierograms because you will need them. (Also remember you can only put a new one on while out of tiger form. Do it wisely.)

Build: Your job is to live so you must restat to fit this need.

Dex: 50's (Just enough to wear LionRex)
Strength: 250ish (Just Enough to use Dehiscent Pangu Axe)
Constitution: Everything left over. (950+ in total)

Gear: See below

The only change being now you will use G15 magic rings with high amounts of HP on them. (Remember only idiots attack barbarians with physical damage when elemental damage is able to be used.) Plus as a holy barbarian tiger form gives enough physical defense to make up for the loss.

Main Skills: As a cata puller your only job is to live and gain fury while dragging the painfully slow catapult to the enemy base. Your skill you use will reflect this.

Beast King Reanimate, Raging Pounce, Bluster, Frighten, Black Tortlen Possess and Rage of Beast King.

That is pretty much it for catapult pulling other than yell at clerics who don't rebuff you or heal other people over you and baldemasters who don't lion roar to save your life.

TW Defending:

When giving this position think of it just like open PK. Kill targets in order with one big change. At any time you see a barbarian with a cart your job is to Damion Provocation and line back them. DO NOT let them get anywhere near your base. Quickly go between line backing the cart puller and killing his clerics. Stalling is key.

TW Assist Barbarian:

Barbarians given this job are expected to do the same as a catapult pulling barb. Except they won't have a catapult to pull. Your job is to mislead the foes by making it look like you may have a catapult and if a barbarian dies; to then pick up the catapult and carry on.

Pills and Attack hieros:

If you don't have pharmacy leveled do it now. You will not regret it.

Regardless of what people say pills are a viable option that every barbarian need to have at the ready and understand when to use them. Understanding when to use certain pills only comes with experience with a few exceptions.

NOTE: Defense pills are to be used only after Black Tortlen Possess has expired. Also have a full stack of all pills you use as well as have them on the skill bars at all times.

-Starlight Talismanic Dew- Massively increases defenses for 20 seconds. Use when coming under moderate elemental attacks from multiple foes and your hiero has ticked.

-Powder of Impregnability- Immune to everything for 12 seconds. Wonderful pills for TW catapult pullers when every second counts on that crystal. Also use in pk when many targets are attacking with elemental damage and some have fury burst.

-Powder of Perfect Accuracy- Massive accuracy boost. Use against high dex based builds when you want to guarantee perdition will hit.

-Powder of Unbound Limit- Free Movement. Use in TW to get by poison towers when rushing or to block sleep and stuns.

-Powder of Aeolous Riding- Move 200% faster. My favorite pill out of all of them. Use to catch a running foe very fast; very few expect a barbarian to move so fast and are not prepared for the incoming rush.

-Pekoe White Tea- Gain 200 fury. Use as needed just remember that fury comes with the cost of losing the defense pills for two minutes.

-Attack Hierograms- Increase the attack damage you do. You are a barbarian all damage you can get helps so just do it. Have a least 1 row in your bag as they go quickly.

Building your PK Barbarian:

Strength: Min of 300 (Needed for the rank 8 hammer.)
Dexterity: Min of 200; Max of 300 (You really need the accuracy)
Constitution: Everything else ranging from 600 - 800.

No two Barbarians have the same HP for the most part. The key is to find a balance for HP and Str/Dex while still having a perdition that can kill people.

Tips & Tricks:

Hidden Fury:
One big downfall of using a fury burst is the massive animation telling everyone stun this retard. However, barbarians can secretly fury burst and then proceed to wreck people. This is done by being in tiger form when using fury burst. The animation will not show and the only way they will know is if they see the resist pop-up. I have done this to great effect and no one realizes till it is too late.

Catching a running foe:
Quite often your target will be moving away from you. In order to catch them to use a skill or auto attack you must slightly run past them and turn towards them and use the skill. This way they will not out run your attack before it finishes.

Player Info:

One of the best habits for a barbarian to get into is to player info every target they come across. Many casters go heavy armor and these are a big waste of fury and time for a barbarian. The more you know about your target the more efficient you can be in a fight.
