(Note that you do not necessarily need a microphone to use vent. The main purpose for us using Vent is to call out orders and targets in TW and PvP.) and socialise.

For the people who already know how to use Ventrilo, here's the server details:

Hostname or IP: v09.darkstarllc.com
Port: 3942

Downloading Ventrilo

Go to http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php and click the Client Program for your Windows version (should be the top one, to start the download.

Follow through the installation guide.

Setting up a New Profile

Launch Ventrilo.

Now, click on the arrow -> to the right of User Name to create a new so-called profile (screenshot).

Hit New in the window that pops up and type in your name, preferrably your in-game character name

(Optional) In the Phonetic box, type in how you want your name to be pronounced by the Text-to-Speech voice and hit Play to check if it sounds right.

The two remaining fields, Description and Work Dir, can be left blank for now.

Hit OK to save and return to the main window.

Server Settings

Now click on the next -> arrow to set up server info (screenshot)

Hit New in this window and choose what you want to call the server, for example "Foreplay".

In the box called Hostname or IP type in v09.darkstarllc.com.

For Port number, type in 3942.

Hit OK to save and return to the main window.

Setting Push-To-Talk Key

The Push-To-Talk key is what you will use to activate your microphone and can be pretty much any key on your keyboard. You will not be heard by any users on Ventrilo unless you hold down this specific key while talking.

Click Setup in the menu on the right side of Vent's main window (screenshot).

First off, make sure the box labelled Use Push To Talk Hotkey (PTT Mode) is checked (screenshot).

(Optional) If you want Ventrilo to play a sound file each time you press and release your Push-To-Talk key, check Play Key Clicks. This is entirely up to you.

Now click inside the larger box next to Hotkey to set your PTT key. It will now say "Mouse: Button 1". To change, simply press whatever key on your keyboard you wish to use as Push-To-Talk key. Personally, I'm using the left CTRL-key (screenshot).

Hit OK to save and return to main window.

Connecting and Channel Hopping

All you have to do now is click Connect in the menu on the right side of the main window.

The server has many different channels, marked with a . Some are open for all, others require a password to get into . To join a channel, simply double-click its name.

Troubleshooting

Q: My Push-To-Talk won't respond if I launch and start playing PWI at the same time as running Ventrilo. What's wrong?
A: If you're using a computer with Windows Vista, simply shut down Ventrilo and restart it by right-clicking on the Ventrilo icon on your desktop (or wherever you installed it) and choose "Run as administrator".

good info to know^^ To what extent do the members of Foreplay use Vent? I have the server DLd, but usually have my head stuck in some stream of music or another Razz

ATM not much usage of it: We will soon seek to improve that, especially for guild related activities such as TW.
